I'm probably the last person in the collaboration circle to know what's happening in the comic so my reactions to them coming in are probably similar to the readers'. Jerem was adamant about keeping the intrigue (and anxiety) so he maintained a no hints policy throughout the project. This also meant he was quite specific with the art direction of the overall tone and ambience I was creating through the medium of colours.
If you've been reading and paying attention, the colour, red and the many hues of it play a vital part in the comic in terms of flow and atmosphere. If I remember right, Jerem's exact words were, "As we progress, page by page, go deeper red.".
The panels above were explicitly requested to be red heavy apart from the last 3 panels; suggesting two completely different moods telling a non-verbal story through colours alone. I'll admit to not seeing this back then, when I was knee-deep in the throes of furious chromatic slathering.
But now.
Now, I totally see it.
What I didn't see back then either, which you will in the next few panels, were the unfolding events that swiftly prompted various gasping and gurgling noises from my mouth-hole, complete with rather uncomfortable facial distortions that I never knew I was capable of. I blame all of this on Jerem, of course. And Mike. And Greg.
By the way, I've recently linked the comic to
